CELEBRITY LEARNERS

There are several different types of Celebrity Learner driver. There are those who are celebrities who have been featured in programmes about Learning to Drive. There are fictional characters such as Dot Branning in East Enders. And then there are those like the ubiquitous Maureen from "Driving School" who have become famous through there skills or lack thereof in Learning to Drive.

Nadia Sawalha has made a bit of a career of programmes about Learning to Drive. As well as being on Celebrity Driving School, she has presented "Mirror Signal Manoeuvre".

Celebrity Driving School was this great idea about showing celebrities learning to drive and then receiving there practical driving test result live on TV during the show. In addition to Nadia, other celebs included Gareth Gates, Jade Goody from Celebrity Big Brother and Paul O'Grady. Sadly all failed!
The low point for Learner Drivers on TV must surely have been Maureen (sorry no picture available!) on Driving School! Fame achieved by having such lack of ability! Rows with her husband as she was driving, swerving in front of vehicles on a dual carriageway, the nation was gripped by her efforts. Eventually (to most people's suprise) she passed.

While some have become celebrities through their learning antics, and others have used Celebrity Driving School programmes to raise their PR profile, Suzi Perry of the Gadget Show has been busy presenting DSA videos, cds and dvds. Obviously a ploy by the DSA to get the lads paying attention!
Film star Brittany Murphy of "Sin City" was told to learn to drive for a role in her film "Love and Other Disasters"

The ultimate high point on TV for Learner Drivers must be Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em

The ultimate lows - Confessions of a Driving Instructor, Maureen (see above) and Dot Branning (Cotton) "learning to drive" in East Enders
